ABOUT

Project 88 Designs | A Residential Design Studio by Laura Sewell

Meet Laura

Laura Sewell is the founder and principal designer of Project 88 Designs, a Chattanooga-based residential architectural and interior design studio specializing in custom homes, renovations, and thoughtfully considered interiors.

A graduate of the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, Laura holds a Bachelor of Architecture with a minor in Interior Architecture. Her education also includes studies at Aalto University in Helsinki, Finland, and the Nashville Civic Design Center. Her professional background spans high-end residential design and commercial architecture, providing a comprehensive understanding of both architectural design and interior spaces.

In 2019, Laura established Project 88 Designs with a vision to bring architecture and interiors together through a cohesive, highly personalized approach. Her work is rooted in the belief that a well-designed home should feel as intentional as it is effortless, balancing architectural character, enduring materials, and carefully considered details with the individual needs of those who live there.

From initial concepts to the finishing touches, Laura approaches each project with an appreciation for proportion, materiality, and the relationship between spaces, creating homes that feel collected, timeless, and distinctly personal.

OUR PHILOSOPHY

A home should be a personal reflection of the people who live in it.

Every design decision is grounded in understanding how a family lives, what they love, and their long-term vision.

Listen first

The design starts with your needs, your wants, and the way you live.

Design as a whole

Architecture, interiors, and furnishings are considered together, so nothing feels added on later.

Built to last

Classic proportion, honest materials, and warmth, for homes that feel calm, lived-in, and quietly luxurious for years to come.

THE NAME

Why “Eighty-Eight Designs”

The name traces back to Laura’s first designs in college, a few pieces of furniture built by hand. She named the work for August 8th, a date of personal significance, and when she founded her practice in 2019, she kept it. Eighty-Eight has symmetry and balance, the same qualities she looks for in every home. In the Chinese culture, where eight sounds like the word for “prosper,” 88 stands for double good fortune.
